广州老工人洪强的儿子阿全、儿媳艳萍、女儿素芬同在一家工厂工作，可是由于工厂破产，他们同时遭遇下岗。于是洪强不得不为下岗的儿女们重新找工作而四处奔波。经过一番周折，阿全听从了父亲的劝告暂到修单车铺工作，艳萍到车站当清洁女工，后加入司机培训班成了一名公交车司机。素芬立志掌握一门新技能，参加了插花艺术培训班，在学习中她结识了青年农民王平安，在他的影响下，素芬毅然离城下乡办花场。他们分别从下岗带来的彷徨困惑中走出，最终转变观念，找到了新的人生坐标。...
