正在监狱服刑的青年奥里斯（James Franco 杰姆斯•弗兰克 饰）和乐队伙伴乘坐警车去为敬老院的老人们表演，他们的演出无精打采，台下也没有任何互动，气氛十分尴尬。突然奥里斯为一阵琴声所吸引，他循声寻找，在教堂找到了正弹奏美妙爵士乐的那个人，竟是他路上遇见的一个脑瘫患者华伦（Brad Renfro 饰）。华伦被老人们赶走，奥里斯却为他的才华所吸引，一路跟到对方的家中，却遭到华伦父亲（Meat Loaf 饰）的斥责。两个爱好音乐的青年终于见面，开始了他们的第一次合作……...
